Some years ago (late 1999) I joined the Internet. I was sharing a house with two friends creating a start up company who spent a lot of time on line. I was left in the dark by new fangled technology, but they helped me set up my first laptop and they had a broadband connection so life was easy.
A few years later I was living alone and had to set up my own broadband. I asked one of my old housemates what to do. He recommended Pipex, explained how to contact them, what to request and how to set it up once it arrived. And he was right to do so.
This was 2003 and they were just what I needed. Simple, cheap and efficient. I had a good relationship with Pipex. When I changed address in 2005 they transferred my service without problems, and when cheaper broadband appeared, and I asked about a different service, they shifted me to a competitive lower tariff hassle free. Because that's the thing about a relationship - when it's going well you drift along in a happy dream world.
But things were about to change, and like most relationships, it was initially an issue of compatibility.
